Allies Comments

Allies offer valuable insight for each of us, no matter where you stand in your journey of acceptance/non-acceptance.  They have often travelled a path that resonates with that of many.  Below are some of their comments/feedback about our journey Gay Into Straight America.

  • Roberta Kreider is a living testament to God's power to work in mysterious ways. She grew up under the doctrine that homosexuality, while rarely discussed at all, was considered to be an awful and exceedingly terrible sin.  The idea that homosexuals could be active caring Christians that walked in God's love was never an issue for her until tragically her dear brother contracted AIDS, and came out to Roberta shortly before his death. From her "Fifteen Reason Why I Changed My Mind" , and her willingness to hear EVERYONE's story, came the book From Wounded Hearts.  Keep reading "the rest of the story" and her comments.

  • Mavia Burke - 8th grader from Fairhaven Middle School in Bellingham, WA - who videotaped Dotti and Roby for a school project

  • Peggy Campolo (Pennsylvania), speaker and wife of evangelic minister/speaker, Tony Campolo,  "God bless you and the wonderful work you are doing!  I loved reading your play by play of your tour at Focus on the Family.  There is hope because of wonderful people like you."

  • Joan deVelder (New Jersey) "You and Roby are not just people of faith...but you are people of immense courage.  Please plan on staying with me when you come to NJ on this trip.  Let me know when!"
  • Randi and Phil Reitan, Lutherans from Minnesota,  "WOW! What an adventure...you are both amazing!  We will look forward to your plans."

  • Bev McCullough (Washington) "I really enjoyed talking with you and Roby when we met at Lummi Island.  Your love for each other is the best testament to the craziness of how you are treated.  Take care, and continue to feel God's love surround you both."

  • Kathy Stayton (Philadelphia, PA) "Dotti..By the way, at our Central Baptist Church women's retreat (29 of us from 30-80 years old), we were to light a candle naming a woman who inspired us or were models in some way for us.  I chose you because you opened doors of liberation and diversity for yourself, and in the  process you guided lots of other people through the doors as well."

  • Peggy Parker (Washington) I think of Roby and Dotti like major fireflies, lighting up people's awareness, understanding, and imagination. Two normal people with the gift of illumination. Safe travels!

  • Christoopher J Blessings on you, Dotti, Roby and Rylee Joy! I found your site through Lars Clausen's site. I worked with/for Lars way back when I was a college student working as a "student associate" at my campus church. From day one, Lars has awed and inspired me, and my wife and I hold him and his family in the highest regard. And, of course, any contemporaries of his are winners in my book! I'm excited to see that there are others doing such important work on such a large scale. Today and always: May you be filled with loving kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.
