Diversity Beans
is a wonderful candy product designed to help promote diversity and tolerance in corporations. Our jelly beans come in 6 different colors and 6 different flavors for a total of 36 combinations.  You can bite into a red Diversity Bean and it might be cherry, lemon, lime, white grape, orange, or licorice.

·         Stereotyping is a way of thinking (learned human behavior).

·         Prejudice is a way of feeling.

·         Discriminating is a way of behaving.

·         Oppressing is systematic subjugating of others,  leading to internalized oppression.

Diversity Beans are intended to help people move beyond their differences, experiencing expectations that are not met. We hope this will make people stop to analyze their expectations, and how attachment to a specific outcome often leads to fear, disappointment, and distancing and/or avoidance of some people and situations.

People can and do move beyond stereotypes and prejudices to eradicate discrimination.  Rather than oppressing others, this allows them to simultaneously embrace people’s unique gifts, talents, and differences,  Doing this also helps alleviate internalized oppression.

What is diversity? – All the ways we differ individually and interpersonally.  Diversity is an effort to make our differences a source of strength and creativity with one another.

How can I promote diversity and tolerance in my neighborhood? – Each of us can promote diversity by valuing differences, seeking mutual benefit in all human interactions, respecting each person’s right to be different, and speaking out when anyone, including a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender person,  is denigrated in any way.

How can I provide a daily reminder to embrace diversity inclusive of GLBT person? – By buying bags of diverity beans and offering to people in your home and around the neighborhood, sharing thoughts with one another when each person's bean, even though possibly the same color, tastes different and alters one's perception.

How does stereotyping pertain to diversity? – Stereotyping is a fixed and distorted generalization made about all members of a particular group.  Stereotyping is the first step toward discrimination.  Our thoughts lead to our feelings and our feelings lead to our actions.  Stereotyping is a way of thinking, prejudice is a way of feeling, and discriminating is a way of behaving.  It all starts with a stereotype.

How can I promote discussions on embracing diversity inclusive of GLBT persons? – By purchasing Diversity Beans & using them with young people, older people, ANY people you encounter on a daily basis.
